Over 65s Showcase Their Art in Hacketstown

The first exhibition for 'The Long and Short of It' was held in Hacketstown

The first exhibition for The Long and Short of It was held in Hacketstown on 7th October.

The exhibition featured artworks and animations inspired by childhood memories of harvest time, created by older members of the Hacketstown community in collaboration with a team of professional artists.

The Long and Short of It
is a project by Carlow Arts Festival that provides quality arts opportunities for the over 65s in Hacketstown, Rathvilly, Myshall and Graiguecullen. The work will ultimately feature in a dedicated exhibition at Carlow Arts Festival in June 2023.

The Long and Short of It
is funded by Creative Ireland Carlow's Creativity in Older Age Fund and delivered in partnership with Carlow Arts Office and Carlow County Development Partnership CLG.

“It is a privilege to be able to provide our community with access to high quality arts programmes that champion creativity as a vital strategy for supporting positive ageing, improving mental health and wellbeing, and reducing social isolation. The Long and Short of It enables our older people to come together in a social environment to collaborate with local artists, learn new skills and express themselves creatively. We are thrilled to be able to deliver this project across four areas of Carlow County that have limited access to high quality arts activities.”
David Francis Moore, Programme Director and Executive Producer of Carlow Arts Festival

The Long and Short of It is part of ASSEMBLY, our year-round community engagement and participation programme.
