Plants have been used to make colour on clothes and in artworks for millennia. Join Hollie Kearns, curator of Colour Field at Workhouse Union to plant an experimental artist’s garden, nurturing plants used for colour making. No Booking Required. Wear something appropriate for gardening!

Did you know VISUAL has 3 beehives? Join VISUAL’s beekeeper Derek Blanche for a tour of the beehives in Carlow College’s historic orchard and learn a little bit about what it means to keep bees.

Textile Repair

Sat 30 May, Darning workshop: 10am – 12.30pm, Sashiko workshop: 1.30 – 4pm | VISUAL | Tickets free, booking required

Toufan Hosseiny’s work explores textiles and repair through embroidery, quilting, natural dyeing and mending; each stitch becomes an act of connection, acceptance and healing.

Darning: Learn to repair or reinforce worn areas of your knitted and woven fabrics using a needlework sewing technique.

Sashiko: Learn to mend and reinforce damaged or worn clothing through a modern version of the Japanese Sashiko, using a repetitive small hand stitch and patching.

Please bring a damaged, loved item of clothing that needs repair.

Concertina Notebook & Natural Ink Painting Tutorial
