“Dia duit, tugaim cuireadh duit teacht agus suí liom. An bhfuil aon rud gur mhaith leat a rá le d’athair, ach nach féidir leat ar chúis éigin? Inis dom agus éistfidh mé. Ní labhraím ach Béarla agus is féidir leat a labhairt i cibé cén teanga is compordaí leat. Beidh gach rud a deir tú liom faoi rún iomlán. Tá failte roimh chách.”
“Hello, I invite you to come and sit with me and tell me the things you would like to say to your father and cannot, for whatever reason. I will listen. I only speak English and you can speak in whatever language you feel most comfortable with. Everything you say to me will be completely confidential. You are welcome.”
– Bush
Tell Dad is a one-to-one encounter with Bush Hartshorn, amid the tranquil surroundings of Carlow College’s Orchard, in a cozy improvised living room on the lawn under the trees.
Many arts professionals have come to know Bush as a workshop leader, a creative mentor in an extensive international environment, and maybe even a moderator in everyday life.
Tell Dad gives that opportunity to share thoughts, memories, sorrows and love, to embrace the lost chance to be, for a moment, with loved ones.
“It is not surprising that a person with so much sensitive communication experience decided to occupy the very difficult position of listener”
